Abstract

The research group "Human Aging, Health, Culture and Society" was established in 2016, based on the need to strengthen the Gerontological occupational therapy area of three Higher Education Institutions in Brazil, in which researchers are affiliated. The purpose of this article was to present and discuss teaching, research and extension activities within this research group. This was a descriptive study in which the information about the research group was collected by means of consultation with the Directory of Research Groups of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development and the data related to research and extension projects were based on report's experiences and planned by the group of researchers. The discussion took place around the constitution of the research group and it's characteristics, as well as the research and extension projects articulated to the group and the scientific events. It was concluded that the experiences in the group have promoted the professional practice and the scientific production of all the participants around the growth of the Gerontological occupational therapy area. The actions developed contribute to the growth and strengthening of this area of action, even in the face of the challenge of contingency of resources for the development of science and for the practices of health care and education in the country.
