Abstract

The publication of Resonanz, by Hartmut Rosa, and Kritik von Lebensformen, by Rahel Jaeggi, mark a “social-ontological turn” in contemporary Critical Theory. Despite the great resonance of both authors, in the secondary literature there are no detailed treatments of their social ontologies: the theory of world-relations (TWR) and the theory of life-forms (TLF). The aim of the present paper is twofold. First (1), it aims to systematically reconstruct Rosa’s TWR as an illustration of the social-ontological turn in current Critical Theory. Second (2), it intends to offer some reflections on the epistemological dilemmas involved in attempts to “apply” social ontologies of this kind to the analysis of Latin American realities
